A story of faithfulness

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Do you ever think about how God is in the details of your life? I’ve experienced it countless times in my own life, and we often see Him at work here at camp as well. It’s absolutely amazing how when we have a need, whether it’s to find just the right person to hire for a specific position, or finding enough money to pay a bill, God is faithful every time. I have occasionally pondered why it seems that He usually fills needs just in the nick of time. We’ve often sweated the timing of His provision. He knows what He is doing; I believe He wants us to get to the place where we know He is the only one who can meet the need.

Go-karts, Coasters, and Family Fun

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Many of you probably are just getting back in the groove from Spring Break fun and excitement.  Though I didn’t truly have a Spring Break, I did get to take a little time off last week to spend time with my family.  My wife and I spent the first half of the week hosting her sister and our niece for a few days.  The girls ate Sushi and got pedicures Monday while I worked and then we spent Tuesday together down in Atlanta eating some scrumptious (read unhealthy) lunch at Johnny Rockets followed by a tour of the New World of Coke.  The 4D experience was pretty cool, but the highlight was the tasting room where much to my dismay, we got suckered into tasting the Beverly.  Yeah, I fell for it…  all of the tour guides rave about the Beverly, so you just have to try it.  Well, spare yourself the agony and take it from me, if you don’t like cough syrup, you probably won’t like this one.  At any rate, we did find a few decent flavors to wash down the despicable Beverly, and then left the tour with our cool little 8 oz bottle of Coke.  With our bellies full of Coke, we made the trek back home and settled in to a local pizza hot spot for some great dinner before retiring for the evening.

He Is Risen!!!!

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

“On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.” Luke 24:1-12

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

Can you believe it?!?  Today is April 7, 2009, just 5 days before Easter and it’s snowing!    The weather here is crazy.  It was in the low 70’s on Saturday, and now the snow is falling!  However, our God is in control of it all, and as Good Friday approaches I can’t think of a better time for it to snow!  What an amazing reminder that “while we were still sinner Christ died”.  He takes our dirty lives that are nothing but filthy rags and makes us white as the purest snow!  Wow!  I have been a Christian for almost 20 years, but I still have a hard time understanding that.  Almighty God, creator of the heavens and the earth loves me!  He is intimately involved in every single part of my life!  He even knows the number of hairs that are on my head!  Not only does he love me, but he desires an intimate and real relationship with me.  He desires for me to know him and spend time with him.  He wants my life to be a reflection of Him so that he will be Glorified.  However, there was a problem.  Sin got in the way of my relationship with Jesus.

I need a Hero!

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I have the privilege of having a grandfather for a hero.  I am always amazed at the integrity of his character, his  genuine love for others, and his tireless pursuit of Jesus.  He has never failed to encourage me or give me good advice.  He helped me financially while I was in college.  I watched him take in and raise my cousins when they needed someone to take care of them.  I learned how to be a man after God’s own heart by watching my grandfather. More than anything he has been the model of patience and character.  He is the wisest and kindest man I think I have ever known.
