Meet the Directors

Strong Rock’s directors, James and Corie Himstedt, met as staff at a summer camp over a decade ago and have worked in a variety of camp settings. They have over 20 years of combined experience providing fun and life-changing experiences for kids through the camp environment.

James graduated from Baylor University in Waco, TX in 1996 with a degree in Leisure Services and Outdoor Recreation. He worked as a junior counselor, counselor, horseback riding staff member, and age group leader at a camp before and during his college years. He then served as a full-time program director for four years after he and Corie married in 1996.

Corie graduated from Berry College in Rome, GA in 1996 with a degree in Animal Science. She worked summers before and during college at a summer camp as a riding instructor and horseback program director. She was a full-time assistant director at camp with James after they married, and has served at other camps as head of horseback riding programs.

Strong Rock Camp and Retreat is a dream, but more importantly a life-calling for James and Corie. The couple moved to Cleveland, GA in 2000 when Corie’s parents, Larry and Norma Adams, presented them with the opportunity to open Strong Rock.

Larry is an entrepreneur, primarily involved in real estate. Norma raised Corie and her brother Jonathan, and now assists Larry any way she can. Larry and Norma have always been active participants in church and are excited about the opportunity to provide children with high-quality, life-changing opportunities at Strong Rock.

The Himstedt and Adams families long to show God’s love to others and to help children and their families rest, be refreshed, and have a new view of life after their stay.

James and Corie reside in Cleveland with their young daughter and son, Amelia and Shannon. Larry and Norma live in McDonough, GA when camp is not in session.

Daniel Redding, another director, joined our staff in April 2005.  His camp experience includes 3 summers as a cabin counselor, 2 seasons of support staff and summer staff leadership positions, and 9 years as a full-time Assistant Camp Director.  Daniel graduated from Campbell University with a BBA and MBA in 1996.  Since graduation, he has been using his love for children, passion for service, and business knowledge to impact lives through the camping ministry.  Daniel recently married and enjoys every moment he gets to spend with his new wife, Kristi.  Daniel is very excited to be a part of the Strong Rock Camp team and looks forward to watching this ministry evolve and participating in its growth.
