The warm sun is out a little more often, and our heavy jackets may stay on the hooks a little more too… (depending on where we call home). As we see winter start to fade away, and new life blooms, I get excited about what’s to come. Leaves are starting to appear, animals are coming out of hiding, and best of all, camp is getting closer!
As we see the seasons change, I can’t help but be reminded of what Jesus has done for us, to make available such a major change in our hearts. As we read through scripture, verses like 2 Corinthians 5:7 remind us:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
Because of the work of Christ on the cross, we are given the opportunity to have new life in our hearts, life that is eternal. Winter can be hard, cold, and lonely for some of us. This is no different than the season of emptiness we have before Jesus. No matter how dark, no matter how empty or ugly our life has been, scripture gives us promise that spring will always come after winter. This is such an encouraging message for us!
As we’re close to celebrating Easter, we look to the cross as we see the sacrifice where God sent His Son Jesus, his only Son. And in similar fashion to the new life, full of color, newness and hope, Jesus was raised back from death. This is the message of Easter we will celebrate soon.
So, as you see the blooming flowers, trees, and plants, the color coming back to the grass and the mountains, let it be a reminder of the new life we have been offered through the work of Christ on the cross.
